MapMap is a map viewer for PalmOS-powered handheld computers, aiming to be a simple GIS (Geo-Informational System; currently it supports looking up object (city, street, subway station, etc.) position by its name). The main idea behind MapMap is to create a map viewer, maps for which could be produced without extraordinary effort by the end users. As such, MapMap is: • Raster-based, as producing/obtaining/converting vector map is usually beyond capabilities of mere human. • Uses common desktop format for images, as using propriatary format without need limits user. • Generally keeps data formats open as it allows to use already available third party tools to process data.
