With AirPort, Apple computers handle WiFi pretty well. Still it would be nice to have more details sometimes. coconutWiFi is a menu bar item, in the form of a little bubble, with information on all wireless networks close to you. If there's an unencrypted and open network in range, the little bubble in your menu bar will be green. If not, it will be either yellow or red. Next to the bubble coconutWiFi shows the number of wireless connections that are available. Open up the drop down menu by clicking on the bubble and you'll be able to get information on each individual network like channel or BBSID. coconutWiFi is a good alternative to the Airport menu and will definitely look nicer in your menu bar.
