Traverso 0.49.1 RC1
Traverso is a cross platform multitrack audio editing and recording suite, with an innovative and easy to master GUI.A complete suiteTraverso is a complete solution from recording to CD Mastering. By supplying many common tools in one package, the user isn\'t forced to learn different applications who often have different ways to be controlled. This will lower the learning curve considerably and as a result, the user will be able to do his audio processing much quicker! Robust non-linear audio processingA unique approach to non-linear audio processing was developed for Traverso to provide extremely solid and robust audio processing and editing. Adding and removal of effects plugins, moving Audio Clips or creating new Tracks during playback is perfectly save, giving the user the opportunity to instantly get feedback on his work!Traverso, an audio recording and editing tool with an innovative interfaceWe all love to hate the way applications show their functionality to us with countless buttons, menus and tool bars which consumes much of the real screen estate, and is slow to work with!We believe that the \'contextual interaction interface\' which was specially developed for Traverso is an answer to this problem. The conceptAudio applications have a clear structure, one or more Tracks which contains a number of Audio Clips, a panel that shows information of the Track and so on. All of these are Graphical Elements. The classical approach is to use the mouse to control many or all aspects of the Graphical Elements, clicking to select, clicking on a button to change the mouse to a selection tool, and so on. A lot of clicking with one or two mouse buttons, and we have a keyboard and a left hand that are sitting idle!By using the keyboard (controlled by the left hand) and the mouse together we can speed up the controlling of the Graphical Elements significantly! How it worksLet\'s start with an example, say, we want to adjust the Gain of a Track. We have to open a mixing console, or point the mouse to a small gain slider in a Track panel and make very small mouse movements to adjust the Gain value. This means the right hand does all the work!In Traverso each Graphical Element is \'soft selected\', all actions are readily available when the mouse \'hovers\' it! The actions and how they are performed are all listed in the \'Contextual Menu\', so let\'s open it. Right click the mouse on a Track or press Q, and the menu opens. When looking for Gain we see the shortcut notation [ G ]. It means, press the G (from Gain) key and keep it pressed. Now move the mouse up/down, or use the scrollwheel! The gain cursor that now shows up shows us the Gain of the Track! What we gainedKeys are bound to a certain type of action, and apply to all Graphical Elements that feature the action type. So with learning that the G key handles controlling the Gain variable, we can set the Gain for the Master Out (Sheet Element), Track and Audio Clip! The need for space consuming slider widgets have gone, the mouse doesn\'t need to be moved over long distances speeding up the action, and finally both hands do an equal amount of work reducing the risk of RSI!What\'s New in This Release: [ read full changelog ]· Read and write support for Ogg Vorbis, WavPack, FLAC and MP3· On the fly sample rate conversion· A simple yet effective Project backup and restore system· Better use of available hard disk bandwidth· Encoding formats for recording added: W64 and WavPack· 3 new themes added, notably the medium-contrast and ubuntu theme· Fixed a number of bugs, added new ones and various improvements all over the place· User Manual translated into German and Portuguese
