Chess by Cellufun 1.0.0.3
I've got into chess again in a big way recently and am always on the hunt for ways to practice during the day in order to beat my buddies when I play them in the evenings.
Hence, I decided to download Cellefun's chess game on my mobile phone - and I wasn't disappointed. It's a well-presented recreation of the game of kings with a very clear board and an intuitive control system whereby you can move pieces using the keypad or arrow keys.
Before you start playing there are lots of options to play around with. You can add a clock timer, set the AI level of the computer opponent, choose a side to play on, and much more. There's also a neat Stats menu that lets you keep track of how many games you've played, how many you've won and how many you've lost. You can even choose to play online against a human opponent, though obviously this can become pricey if you have a pay-as-you-go-style phone contract set up.
In terms of its in-game options, Chess by Cellefun is a little more limited, and you can only really undo moves or forfeit the game. It would've been nice to see a Hints option or at least some basic instructions on the game of chess for beginners.
Nevertheless if you want a dose of chess to take on the bus with you this version is a well-polished affair.
